Receiving an Academy Award is the creme dela creme of the acting world. It is fair to say that all the deserving actors received their respective Oscar already. The latest that was added in the roster had to be Leonard DiCaprio, who won his first Oscar for Best Actor after five nominations.
But what about the actors who are yet to receive their own Oscar? With so many talented names in the business, it is quite difficult to narrow them down. However, ExploreTalent has come up with a nondefinitive list that features different actors who need their name engraved on an Oscar trophy. Check them out below.
Famous Actors Who Deserve an Academy Award
5. Bill Murray
Bill Murray is one of the most beloved actors in the business, but even with his many notable roles—especially his collaborations with director Wes Anderson—Murray has yet to win his first Oscar. Murray can do both comedy, humor, and heartache very well. One of his best performances was in Lost in Translation, in which he actually came close to receiving his first Academy Award. However, Murray lost to fellow actor Sean Penn that year.
4. Johnny Depp
Love him or hate him, Johnny Depp is undeniably one of the most versatile actors of this generation. Now all Depp really needs is an Oscar-worthy performance to really cement his legacy. To do so, the talented actor needs something that will best showcase his acting range. Sure, audiences know he can do quirky roles with ease, but Depp definitely needs to step up his game to actually be taken seriously in the business.
3. Glenn Close
There is one movie that comes to everyone’s mind when they hear the name Glenn Close, and that is Fatal Attraction. So it was no surprise that she garnered a nomination for best actress for her performance as a jilted lover slash rabbit murderer in the movie. Now is the right time for Close to actually receive an Academy Award. She has done a number of great performances over the years, and her most recent work in Girl with All the Gifts is something that just can’t be overlooked.
2. Edward Norton
Edward Norton was on the top of his game during the 1990s. He did a number of groundbreaking roles that included Woody Allen‘s Everyone Says I Love You, Primal Fear, Fight Club, and his most controversial role to date, a neo-Nazi in American History X. Now it isn’t like Norton has fallen off the radar, it’s just that the talented actor has not been getting Oscar-worthy roles these days. With his acting range and versatility, it is safe to say that everyone is rooting for Norton to finally get recognition for his talents.
1. Gary Oldman
Gary Oldman is one of the most renowned actors in the world. He has taken part in big blockbuster franchises such as Harry Potter and the Dark Knight, but he has also done other roles that really deserve an Oscar. One good example is his portrayal as Count Dracula in Francis Ford Coppola‘s version of the Bram Stoker classic. At 58 years old, it is safe to say that Oldman has more time to get his career going, so it would be no surprise to see the talented Brit finally getting that Oscar recognition.
